The petrified forest trailhead is located on the western boundary of the park. The drive from Medora to the trailhead is approximately 30 minutes on gravel roads. Hike the Petrified Forest (U.S. National Park Service)
This is a short walk about 15 minutes drive from Portland, Victoria. Parking is available at the end of Blowholes road, located in the Discovery Bay Coastal Park on the western side of Cape Bridgewater. There is a path to the Petrified Forest from the carpark. The petrified forest was formed when Moonah trees became buried under drifting sand.

I hiked the entire Petrified Forest Loop, which comes to approximately 10 miles and includes a section of the Maah Daah Hey trail. The actual petrified forest areas are other worldly and a must see. I encountered Pronghorns and Bison while hiking the Maah Daah Hey section. The trail has great views of the Badlands during the entire hike.
