Essential information about Alligator Gorge Getting to Alligator Gorge. Alligator Gorge is a 20 minute drive from Wilmington, and a lot of that is down a rough dirt road. You don't need a 4WD, but the road has several gullies, bumps and steep sections. Wilmington is on the edge of the Flinders Ranges and is a 3 hour 15 minute drive from Adelaide.
